WOSA offers a comprehensive free Level 1 online wine course developed in conjunction with Cathy Marston, Head of the International Wine Education Centre and WSET Educator of the Year.​

Course Structure

The course consists of six informative modules covering:

• History of South African wine industry

• Grape varieties and wine styles

• Winegrowing areas and terroir

• Assessment: Multiple choice quiz follows each module (80% pass rate required)

• Retakes: Failed modules can be repeated

Registration

The course is open to anyone with an interest in South African wine and requires simple registration with name, contact details, profession, and company information. The certificate will display the exact name provided during registration.

Wines of South Africa (WOSA) offers a second, advanced-level online wine course following the introductory Level 1. This Level 2 course is also free and is designed to further deepen your knowledge and understanding of the South African wine industry, building on the foundation established in Level 1.

Key features of the WOSA Level 2 online wine course:

• Advanced Content: Level 2 delves deeper into wine regions, varietals, viticultural practices, wine styles, and South Africa’s wine heritage and innovations.

• Course Structure: Just like Level 1, Level 2 contains engaging modules, each followed by a quiz. A minimum score of 80% is required to pass each module and progress.

• Certification: Upon successful completion, you receive a digital certificate, which you can showcase as proof of your advanced knowledge.

• Accessibility: The course is online, free, and available to anyone globally; it can be taken at your own pace.

• Registration & Requirements: Simply register with your email and personal details (as you did with Level 1). There are no strict prerequisites besides preferably completing Level 1.

Level 1 introduces you to the basics of South African wine, while Level 2 is tailored for enthusiasts and professionals who wish to gain a more comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the industry. Completing both levels provides a solid grounding in South African wine, history, winegrowing areas, wine tourism, and sustainability credentials, boosting both personal and professional knowledge.​
