GeoVino is the wine project from Rudi D'Hauwers en Ann Viaene.
We are both scientists: Rudi is a geographer and especially likes 'terroir and climate'. Ann holds a doctorate in biotechnology and is particularly interested in the 'process of wine making'. It all started 35 years ago on our one of our first trips together through beautiful Corsica, where we were impressed by the beautiful AOC Muscat de Cap Corse and many other wine regions. Since then, one or more wine tastings will never be missing on our many travels (around the world).
We have made more than 30 multi-day wine tours since 2000: Southern Burgundy, Beaujolais, Champagne, Bourgogne, Saint-Emilion, Pomerol, Bergerac, Toro, Ribeira del Duero, Southern California, Southern Rhone, Faugères, Cornas, Ahr, Rheingau, Savoie, Wachau, Northern Rhone, Melbourne, Sydney, Portugal,...
Since 2001 we have been intensively 'tasting' wine as a member and afterwards wine master of the club of friends Au Medoc in Sint-Lievens-Houtem, now Commanderij Livinus and since 2004 as a board member of Osiris Wijncommanderij Gent (until 2015). We have been masters of the Flemish wine guild since 2007. We are both lovers of olfactological experiments: wine and dish combinations
In September 2005, Rudi was introduced as "Vigneron d'honneur" de Saint-Emilion during the Jurade de Saint-Emilion.
Since 2010, Rudi is also "Commander" at the Baronie Gent of the Commanderie des Costes du Rhône. This Commanderie brings together cooperatives and individual producers from 173 different villages and 13 appellations belonging to this region. The headquarters of the Commanderie is located in the castle of Suze-la-Rousse. The Commanderie takes care of its international image by establishing Baronies, as it has already done in Switzerland, Germany, the United States, Canada and Liège. On February 21, 2004, a Barony was also established in Ghent and the foundation chapter took place. Of course Rudi knows the wines of the Northern and especially the Southern Rhone like no other.
In recent years, Rudi has also attended various masterclasses on various wine themes and followed various short-term courses at the Flemish Wine University, WSET, Wine Scholar Guild etc...
The selection of our wines
The pre-selection of the GeoVino offer is made through various tastings at local winegrowers and with feedback from a close group of experienced wine tasters, wine experts and scientists who together have made dozens of wine tours, visited hundreds of winegrowers and had several wine tastings. Quirky, high-quality, organic and affordable is our motto.
